FIRST HARVEST
First Harvest Campaign
Help make the garden a long-term resource for the community!  This October, Green Florida launches the First Harvest Campaign with the goal of raising $40,000 to purchase the garden property at 1443 Highland Street South.

Why make a gift to support the purchase of the garden?
   - The garden serves many important purposes, from beautifying the neighborhood, to providing affordable healthy food, to educating young people.
   - Once this campaign is successful and we hold the title to the land, the garden can be maintained with only minimal expenses in the future.
   - Community gardens around the country are routinely lost or faced with much larger fund-raising challenges when they don't deal early on with acquiring their land.  There are numerous examples of this.  We want our    garden to be there for the long-haul.

Make a gift today through our secure donation link on the right.  A contribution of $100 or $500 makes you a Lifetime Member of the Garden. We'll be reaching out to our neighbors through letters, phone calls, house parties and fun events at the garden itself.  Please join in!  Call Andrea Hildebran at 727-643-7189 to help out.

OTHER ACTIONS
We are asking St Petersburg City Council to change its zoning laws so that community gardens can be established in residential neighborhoods.  Community gardens foster neighborhood pride, promote connections across generations, teach young people about the environment and help people access fresh, healthy food.  Join us in making St Petersburg one of the greenest cities in Florida by signing the petition below.

YES! I support community gardens in my neighborhood.

I am a resident of St Petersburg, FL and I would strongly support an effort to start a community garden in my neighborhood.  I hope the city will allow community gardens to be established in residential neighborhoods and that the city will lend community gardens every available form of assistance.

Neighbors working together makes a huge difference in any community.  In Bartlett Park, the Community Garden Project has accomplished a great number of things since our formation in 2007.  We have:
  • Obtained a lease and purchase agreement for our garden site
  • Partnered with numerous organizations and sponsoring businesses (for info click here)
  • Gathered more than 650 signatures from supporters of community gardens
  • Launched a membership program with annual and lifetime members
  • Produced organic cotton t-shirts for our members
  • Sent two of our members to the Green For All conference in Memphis, TN in March.
  • Raised more than $5,000 in contributions and sponsorships
  • Contributed materials toward the creation of a garden at South Heritage Rehabilitation Center
  • Brought kids together to paint rain barrels in Bartlett Park
  • Sold hundreds of Florida Native Plants through our booth at the Saturday Morning Market.
  • Restored the garden's historic shed
  • Installed a well and pump for irrigating the garden
  • Begun installation of a fence
